Last week when I was standing waiting for a tram, an advertisement on the platform shelter caught my eye. The ad showed the inside of a dishwasher, with the headline
Boil an egg in the dishwasher. The advertiser was SWECO, the Swedish sustainable engineering and design company, and apparently this was one of 31,000 ‘enriching’ projects. Intriguing, I thought. So I went away to find out a bit more about
SWECO and their other 30,999 enriching projects.
Enriching project #18,563 caught my eye – a project to develop a low-energy preschool in the Swedish town of Kil. The building will, as far as possible, be heated by sources including the kinetic energy of the people using the building and capturing and recycling the heat generated by equipment. Fascinating stuff.
The next step in the project is to develop a sustainable playground, whereby the kinetic energy of children playing can be harnessed. And anyone who has small children will know – that’s a lot of energy worth capturing!
I didn’t really know very much about SWECO until now, but I love the work they’re doing so I’ll try and share their enriching projects with you on a regular basis!
